چکیده

INTRODUCTION In 2008, the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) confirmed a positive sighting of the Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in the Town of Oakville, Ontario. EAB is a small exotic and invasive beetle indigenous to Asia that was introduced in the Detroit, Michigan area. In July 2010, Oakville Council approved the 2010 Emerald Ash Borer Work Plan that will see the town implement more aggressive preventative measures to manage the spread of this invasive species. One of Oakville's many strategies to prepare for and manage loss to the Town's ash trees from EAB was to employ hyperspectral imaging (HSI) technology to detect the locations of the host species (Fraxinus) Town-wide and attempt to map levels of infestation. AMEC Earth & Environmental, Inc. was contracted to conduct the analysis. This report provides an overview of hyperspectral imaging technology, the custom aerial imagery data collection for the project, the field campaign to collect spectral signatures of ash trees, the analysis of the imagery, the results of the classifications and their accuracy, and the products delivered.

Electric bicycles as a new active transportation modality to promote health.

UNLABELLED Electrically assisted bicycles (EAB) are an emerging transportation modality favored for environmental reasons. Some physical effort is required to activate the supporting engine, making it a potential active commuting option. PURPOSE We hypothesized that using an EAB in a hilly city allows sedentary subjects to commute comfortably, while providing a sufficient effort for health-en...

Ash decline assessment in emerald ash borer-infested regions: A test of tree-level, hyperspectral technologies

The emerald ash borer (EAB) is an exotic insect pest currently threatening ash species in the Great Lakes region. Because of the potential impact on forests in this area, multiple government agencies are currently focusing their efforts on developing new technologies to detect, monitor and control this insect pest. Previous work has shown that hyperspectral remote sensing technologies can produ...

Analysis of Hyperspectral Imagery for Oil Spill Detection Using SAM Unmixing Algorithm Techniques

Oil spill is one of major marine environmental challenges. The main impacts of this phenomenon are preventing light transmission into the deep water and oxygen absorption, which can disturb the photosynthesis process of water plants. In this research, we utilize SpecTIR airborne sensor data to extract and classify oils spill for the Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Horizon (DWH) happened in 2010. For t...

The influence of satellite populations of emerald ash borer on projected economic damage in U.S. communities, 2010-2020

The invasion spread of the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire) (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) is characterized by the formation of satellite populations that expand and coalesce with the continuously invading population front. As of January 2010, satellite infestations have been detected in 13 states and two Canadian provinces. Understanding how newly established satellite populations ...
